Board Updates! (Part 4 - Bark! Bark Bark!)
Kings and Kingettes,
Further developments! We’ve been diligent at work, preparing to show our next demo at the Capital Creative Showcase on April 20th! https://www.capitalcreativeshowcase.com/
Each week, we’ll be posting updates of what we’re working on. Some will be available to play, while some features are just too early to show. We’re happy to discuss anyways because we want feedback. We’ll continue to do this until the day of the show, so consider subscribing on itch or… anywhere!
This week, let’s talk about…
Barks!
Or… alternately known as “short form dialogue” or “reactions” or just “yells” (mostly barks). We added a little system into the game as part of establishing individual pieces with their own character.
Our game of “Board of the Kings” eagerly aims to take some of the qualities of a classic-to-modern RPG and apply them to a traditional game of Chess, and part of that includes turning pieces into proper NPCs.
Now you too can start to have conversations with the little wooden pieces on your board at home! No one will think you’re crazy!
We’ve only just added the system, and we’re aware that we need to make minor improvements and tweaks. However, aside from the limited sets of dialogue, it already adds a little personality to the game that you don’t see from traditional Chess.
So far the reactions are limited, and a little repetitive, but we’ll balance that out before April.
What do you think? We'd love to hear your feedback!
