CCS2025 (Part 2 and 3) - Events and Relics

Sorry we missed a week, we've been deep in both planning, implementing, and executing for our game (and more!)

For transparency, for those who don't know, many of the team on Board of the Kings also work as board members for the Sacramento's Developer Collective, which is also the non-profit that runs the Capital Creative Showcase, so we're basically running a dual-effort here trying to get the showcase ready while also trying to get our game ready at the same time. But now, let's talk game design.

Events and Encounters

As is somewhat common in games of this nature, we've been working to implement Events and Encounters into our game. While we don't have anything strong visually to show for it, they are in the game, as in they're playable, but with no connecting dots to them, hence they've got to be playtested above the actual mode until we're able to implement.

Unlike some other game modes, we might be looking at a higher frequency of Events and Encounters versus Battles in our game. We'll have to play around with it to see what feels good, but we want to ensure that the game has a lot of variety. Early game multiple chess battles have the capability of becoming somewhat stale, so throwing in some chance encounters for freebies will definitely balance out, especially once we begin to flesh out and realize how our currencies will work.

Relics

Now for something we actually don't have a lot to show. We will be getting these in to ensure that we have some variance when it comes to play patterns, even if they have to be simple.

Truthfully, we've had to adjust strongly for our game due to the problem with small numbers. Since everything previously had basically been one move one take, design space was severely limited. We've recently been playing around with the idea of quarter and half hearts, which generally increases our capability for game design.

Please look forward to what we'll be able to show off on June 14th!

As all of our pieces are coming together very slowly, we'll have to be showing off what little we're able to as we continue to iterate. Thank you for always supporting us!
